my kitties and the parakeet

my daughter works at our local PetCareWarehouse and i recently asked her if they might be able to get in a canary for me. my grandmother had canaries and i loved to hear them sing, and i have wanted one for years. the manager said that she could, so i told them whenever i got completely moved, then i would get one.
samantha calls me up friday and says "mom, guess what i got you? a bird". i told her i thought that i had said to wait until i got moved, and she said that a customer had brought one in, just wanting to get rid of it, and it had EVERYTHING with it: cage, seed, treats, toys, etc., and it was free, so she got it for me. here is a picture of it:
does that look like a canary? samantha was just thrilled that she had gotten such a wonderful bird for me and free to boot! *sigh*
jonah got an overnight pass, so i was taking him to nc to the house we're moving to, and samantha called while we were on our way up there. she had come by the house to get bryar's bed and wanted to know where i was. when i told her, she then informed me that she hadn't known i wasn't going to come back to the apartment and she had brought the bird and left her on my dining room table. with 2 cats in the house. one weighing about 10-12 lbs, and the other about 5 months old and ALL over the place. i said if i had a dead bird when i got home i was gonna be mad.
"well, i set it in the middle of the table, i think she'll be ok"
fortunately for her, it was.
i sat birdie's cage in the floor so that she could enjoy the sunlight today. here is my big cat, sebastian, checking out the menu.
i took a break from packing and laid down in the floor so that i could be close by if either cat decided to attend culinary school with it. my 5 month old girl, ezme (rhymes with pez me, after edward's mother in the movie twilight-my daughter's picking, not mine) had to lay down with mommy.
stupid cat.
guess you can tell just how the sweet little thing has me wrapped! i have never had a cat that tried to literally sleep ON me. she has a habit of getting just as close to me as possible, which would be okay, but she has a very loud purr. and she want to sleep on my head. in my ear. or on my neck. one night this past week, she woke me up trying to creep up on my eye. damn cat.
